Databricks Boosts India R&D to Advance AI and Multi-Cloud Solutions

Databricks, a major provider in the data lakehouse platform space, has announced a strategic plan to bolster its research and development operations in India, aiming to double its R&D workforce by the end of this year. This initiative is part of a broader $250 million investment focused on advancing large language models and strengthening capabilities for managing multi-cloud environments. Since establishing its R&D hub in Bengaluru, Databricks has recruited about 100 engineers, with plans underway to hire 100 more. This effort addresses the global shortage of AI expertise by tapping into India’s rich pool of tech talent.

This expansion includes the enhancement of new features such as Lakeflow Connect and better infrastructure management, catering to enterprise clients across different sectors. Databricks’ investment reflects its commitment to addressing the growing demand for data modernization and generative AI solutions in India. The aim is to grow the workforce to 750 employees by year-end while also boosting go-to-market and customer success teams to improve client engagements.

Furthermore, Databricks plans to launch the Data + AI academy in India, with the goal of educating 500,000 partners and clients in the domain of data modernization and generative AI over the next three years.
