7 M&As That Defined a Decade of Dealmaking—and Reshaped the Economy

The 2010s were a busy time for mergers and acquisitions. As the global economy recovered from the biggest financial shock since the Great Depression, the healthiest companies emerged ready to swoop with big-dollar deals.

All in all, the 2010s saw 464,439 M&A transactions worldwide, up 25% from the previous decade, according to Institute for Mergers, Acquisitions and Alliances, an M&A research nonprofit. The aggregate value of all those deals increased 26% from the previous decade to $34.3 trillion.
